Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encode the info exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to protect the information that visitors submit on your Internet site - a login page, a payment page if you run a web-based store, and so forth. Any information they enter in any box on the website shall be submitted securely to the server, so their login or payment information shall be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Usually, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be set up, which means the overall cost for your web presence will be bigger. While this may not be a problem for a larger enterprise, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which does not generate big earnings if additional money should be spent. That's the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Cloud Hosting
Considering that we offer SSL certificates with our cloud hosting solutions, you can easily secure your site and use a shared IP address with just a few mouse clicks. The option will be available during the order procedure, so if you have a dedicated IP, you can use it, but if you do not have one and you don't want to pay for such a service, you could use the shared IP, which has been set up particularly for SSLs. The certificate will work in the same exact way as if it had a dedicated IP address and the one difference shall be that if anyone attempts to open the IP address as a URL, they will not see your Internet site. Given that our system has an auto-configuration option, the SSL shall be set up automatically once it is issued, so you will not need to do anything on your end after you approve it. That way, you'll be able to have a secure and trustworthy Internet site without spending more money for that.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The shared IP address option is available with all Linux semi-dedicated hosting and the setup takes just 2 clicks within the hosting Control Panel regardless if you get an SSL via our enterprise or via a third-party supplier. There shall not be any difference in terms of how the certificate functions or encrypts the data which your visitors submit, so your Internet site will be secure without spending any additional funds for a dedicated IP. The only thing that will be different is that https://the-shared-IP won't open your website, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it's extremely unlikely that anyone will ever try to access your internet site in this way rather than typing your domain. We also offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs purchased via our company and if you select it and you choose to use a shared IP instead of a dedicated one, our system will set everything up as soon as the SSL is approved and issued without any action on your end.
